In the how-to section you can look forward to something a little bit different than what you might find in our blog articles. Typically our articles focus on telling the story of becoming a software developer as experienced by one aspiring developer and discuss topics that are important to success in the industry.

In the how-to we’re going to take a little less of a story telling approach and more of a particle, well, how-to approach. Keeping the beginner in mind, we’ll take a look at some coding tips and tricks that have been found to be gotchas to developer in hopes you’ll learn a new skill that will smooth your journey to becoming a software developer.

The coding how-tos

You’ll see articles containing code snippets, how and why we need to write the showcased code the way we do and have a general discussion explaining the concept in a way that an absolute beginner can follow. We will also have videos explaining some of the more intricate how-tos in order to provide a little more hands on, in the moment, feeling. When reading code it a little bit different than watching someone write it and explain the whys and hows behind what they’re doing.

general tips and tricks

You wont just find code how-tos here, you’ll also find more general software developer tips and tricks. How do I prepare for an interview? How do I present a portfolio? Do I wear a tie to my interview? What’s this soft skill business and how do I get better at it? Networking?

There’s a lot more to the world of software development than just punching on a keyboard and drinking coffee. We’ll cover those above questions and more general aspects of software development. Learning how to write stellar code is only part of what a software developer is and, after all, this is Journey To Software Development not, Half a Journey To Software development!
